Coal in East Texas?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I recently moved out to East Texas (near Sulfur Springs/ Lake Fork area) and am having trouble finding a supply of coal anywhere around. There's a lignite mine about 20 minutes north of me, but that doesn't really count :P Does anyone know of one, other than TFS in Kennedale, TX, 3 hours away?

LaGrand's in Texarkana has coal. The 4StatesIronMunchers meet there on the 3rd Sat each month. Been nearly 5yrs since I bought any from there but it is excellent coal....or was anyway.  If you are a member of the Saltfork Craftsmen and Artist Assoc.=== the Oklahoma group===you can buy coal from them. There is a group of them that meet in the Paris, TX area on the 1st Sat each month. Their web site is www.saltforkcraftsmen.org if you need to contact someone up there. here is the 4States web site== http://www.fourstatesironmunchers.com/4simindex.html  Good luck!

I don't know if they run anywhere by you, but down here in SOUTH east Texas the rail road tracks usually have cars full of coke. It always spills out and can be found along the tracks often.

Be careful about walking the rr tracks or picking anything up on the rr right of way. Always ask permission first. The rr takes a dim view of trespassing and or theft.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll look into the group that meets in Paris.

I'm thinking about just making charcoal.
