Frank Turley
I just thought I would send a few pics of a rather curious old firepot, said to be a Champion. The handle is a push-pull and looks like it would try to shake up the clinker and ash from the top. The shovel-like shape slides forward and back with the handle movement. Another possibility is that the fire and tuyere could be made slightly smaller by advancing the shovel-shape. There is no tuyere valve or ball. The bottom slide closure is missing. It could simply be made of a 1/4" thick small plate which rides between the two rail-like flanges. A 3/8" rod could be attached to it with a turned eye, and the shank/handle could be hooked over the hearth lip and to one side when not in use, out of the way. brian.pierson
Frank, The man at matchlessantiques had something like this tuyere for sale about a week ago. It is close to what you have but marked to a company in Indiana. it is missing the pan that this one has. Here is the url for the sale item. http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIQUE-COAL-FORGE-TUYERE-IRON-Blacksmith-Anvil-/121034896197?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2e3df345&nma=true&si=VSzPlAnSvqjSFBkgbaujqX8SK5U%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Might be worth a second to look at. VaughnT
I was going to bid on that one from Matchless. They look like they would be rather handy for adjusting the size of your fire if you needed a longer/larger fire for something.
