Nicemibs
Hello to all, I was at a auction all day waiting to try to get a very nice 150lb anvil, but was out bid It was stamped, U.S. in large letters and some other writing on the side. Did I miss a good one or should I have kept on bidding, It went for $400, it looks like a Hay Budden? I didnt do too bad though I bought the 2 leg vises for $5 each, one has 5.5" jaws and weighs 100lbs! and 3 pair of tongs for $20 Any info on that brand, were they a Hardware brand from Hay Budden? thanks Jeff
VolcanoForge
Trentons are stamped U.S.A but I'm not sure if HB's are. Nice score on the vises!
ZIG
Hay bidden made some That sold thru Keen Kutter. They were called Blackjack Made in USA and soilid wrought. Or mine says That. The USA is the most prominent lettering/stencils still on my 1906 model. Hope that helps. Only Had the hay budden proof mark under the horn. The catalog for keen kutter is found online. Willway Forge
Could it have been a "Vulcan"? I know the military purchased a lot of Vulcans, perhaps this was one of them?
Fatfudd
In Postman's book AIA he says that Hay Budden made anvils marked U.S. and shows one in his book. His picture shows one that is very similar to your drawing.
Nicemibs
Thanks for the info, I am sure it was a Hay Budden, and I didnt really need it, but it was a very nice looking anvil. It went to an Amish home, he would have never stopped bidding on it, they always do that around here! thanks Jeff
