VolcanoForge
Its a Peter Wright. Not sure on the date but I think the ledges on the feet make it after 1860.
Ken Lutes
Volcano forge After you said it was a Peter Wright I went back out and turned it on its side and got the light just wright and you are correct. I could make it out after knowing what I was looking for. It's my understanding that Peter Wright anvils are ok??? It does have normal wear where you would would expect it, about 3/16 sway. Should I leave it along or consider repairing it.
Ken Lutes
I also meant to add that under Peter Wright is patent. That is all that i can see on it. Does that help date it?
VolcanoForge
They are very good anvils. I wouldn't repair it. It looks clean, has good edges. Peter Wrights typically are swayed. Not sure on the patent mark.
ThomasPowers
Smooth is much more important than flat; I'd use it as is and make any decisions *after* you are used to it.
Fatfudd
Looks good to use, the weight stamp is 177lbs if I see it correctly ie. 1.2.9 ?
Frozenforge
If all it has for writing on it is Peter Wright Patent it is 1852 to 1860. If it says Solid Wrought written in a circle around the 2 then it would be after 1860. The stories it could tell! Buy it, use it. It might be the most experienced thing in the shop!
