The camp axe is 1045 with a 5160 bit welded in..The bag axe is 4 piece construction of wrought iron and a W2 cutting bit..

I would take those camping any day!

I beleive that it is an axe small enough to throw in your backpack or "bag" when you are not using it

That is a real neat piece of work that, I do like the shape and the woodwork and maybe someday I might have a go if ever I land a power hammer to break the back of most of the shaping.

Maybe if you have a minute, could you be so kind as to explain how you would go about forging an axe head like that in the first pic?

Well highsider that started out as a 1" square bar of 1045..It was upset for more blade mass then a cutting bit of 5160 was welded in..The eye was slit and drifted..I think we may have a pic or two..let me look..
