I Forge Iron

What should I do with wrought iron from a hay wagon?

Years ago we were given a hay wagon that was falling apart to use as a photo prop.
Due to extensive deterioration, I recently burned the wood to reclaim the metal.
Any suggestions on what to do with it?

The metal bands that were around the hubs would be great jigs for making trivets.

The coarse wrought iron typical of many wagon tyres is often used to make knife fittings as it shows a lot of "character" when etched.

I would say most any "historical" item that was originally made from WI is fair game though you may need to refine it by folding and welding if you need a finer level of WI.

I didn't have anything special to make with the WI.
Wasn't sure if I should advertise them on craigslist for the kind of person who might be doing a wagon restoration.
The wagon was a Merkel which is supposed to be related to the Grubers.

That could be alot of knife fittings... :)
