sean_the_shoer Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 A buddy asked if I knew what kind of anvil this was... says 1 1 14 on foot, and 154 & inverted 2. On face is an X and patented solid anvil. Thanks, Sean Quote
ThomasPowers Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Shouldn't have *anything* on the face! Did you mean the side? I'd have to check those words in AinA but some Trentons were stamped TreXton in a shallow diamond. Doe it have any handling holes. If so how many and where? Does it have an indentation on the bottom if so what shape? Fat waist or thin? Elongated horn and heel or squat? Thick heel or thin. Need more details! Quote
MOblacksmith0530 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I think that makes the weight 154 if my hundred weight calculation is right. Hundred weight calculation; first one 1= 112 2nd 1 = 28 Last 14 = 14 lb Total 154. Quote
Farmall Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Could be a peter wright. They had the words "Solid Wrought " and "patented." on the side. May be that all of the markings cannot be read. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. Not sure about the markings on the Trentons or Trextons. I think they had "solid wrot" or something on the side, but not the word "Patented" like on the Peter Wright. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Don't recall *ANY* anvil being stamped both in pounds and in hundredweight. Need a clearer description of where the markings are or even better a good picture of them. Quote
