billymons Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I see no markings at all . The guy I bought it from seemed like a honest guy with a beutiful anvil collection. He said just by looking at it he can tell its a Soderfors. I dont care to much if it isnt, for 150.00 I couldnt go wrong 150 lb anvil Quote
billymons Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Hey that's not nice. It was too dark to take pics last night. I'll get them up soon. Quote

billymons Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 keep saying "Upload Skipped (Error500)" Quote
billymons Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Ok they lied about the max photo size I had to shrink them even more. The only id I see is aletter "P" on the back edge of the anvil. And I do see a couple old colors of paint on the side. If theres a place i should be looking, let me know I'll look harder. So to all you experts, is this a Soderfors??? Quote
Thomas Dean Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 The feet look Peter Wright as well as the swell of the horn but the tail looks like Hay Budden. I don't have my AIA handy but will check it later. As for the paint, that could be from any time. Over all a nice looking anvil. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The base looks cast, did PW's ever use a cast steel base? Quote
Wesley Chambers Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The feet, depression and horn look a bit like my 194# soder so it could be, if I remember correctly they didn't always mark them for whatever reason, and when they did they used a few different logos and emblems mine has the the words but no shield/coat of arms I have seen a number of different stamps on them. ThomasPowers Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 And here it was me thinking that Sandpile had gotten hold of a Hot bowl of "green"! No reason to be embarrassed---so many makers changing stuff all the time and one maker making anvils for another and vice versa. IIRC Postman mentions that the two anvil makers in Columbus OH may have helped each other out with bases now and then making Trentons and Arm and Hammers a bit nebulous WRT base configurations. Quote
