ThomasPowers
I forge chili peppers from black iron pipe ranging from the legs from a camping "bag chair" up to 1" pipe---and would do larger if I had my powerhammer under power. For my beginner's class we usually use 1/2" as that's a good compromise between being less finicky than the small stuff and taking less time/effort to work the large stuff. But in reality we generally use whatever I was able to find at the scrap yard...
windancer
Thanks, everyone. The pipe for this one was 3/4 inside diameter heavy black pipe. It will work with any size- and any wall thickness. The thin wall pipe is VERY easy to crush, then you can saw it off and start over [ask me how I know that]. Dave
