sword legality

Featured Replies

Okay i want to get a sword but my dad is a convicted felon and i am still living with him, and a was wondering if it is illegal for him to have a sword in his house.

We are in Vancouver Washington, and i tried to fined it some were on this sight just couldn't.

Welcome to the forum. You might wish to ask a lawyer who is familiar with the laws of your state and township.

May I commend you for trying to find out *first* and for thinking about your Father's situation.

It may turn out to be a better move to start a sword acquisition fund and let it build while you are co-housing and be able to buy several *nice* swords later---if it looks like later is not too far in the future...

Legal advice is cheap on the Internet, and "you get what you pay for" is a good rule of thumb when the answer really matters. I second the suggestion to consult with a Washington attorney about this. You can also start with Title 9 of the Revised Code of Washington. http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?Cite=9

You can probably talk to his probation or parole officer and get a straight answer on the legality of knives and swords you can have on the premises. You may simply have to get or build a lockable cage or cabinet or trunk for storage, or you may be told not on the property at all.

It's also possible that there's no prohibition on your father possessing swords at all. Edged weapons aren't nearly as highly regulated as firearms. But this is one of those times when you shouldn't count on the advice of strangers on the Internet.

Maybe if you ask probation or parole people they dont like your dad and will tell you it is ok. Then your door gets kicked in and him hauled away. Best to get a lawyer to give you the answer. Usually in a situation like this where you have to ask the question it is best to think the answer as -No, bad idea.
Would you be asking if you wanted a cute bunny rabbit or a new rain coat?
