loads to look at there john !- just went through them with one of my boys- he liked the snail best, the curly part he says :) i am impressed with all of them, but i really like how whoever it was has done the three pointed trivet , i cant imagine forgwelding that together?? enormous variety too - loving the chap with the spear and fire in his head.... he is in a good strong position! as well, the coat hooks picture 7? on the horse shoe shaped sets, how is the central smaller section secured - is it just welded at the back? thats a good looking design to me. want to hold the key! big keys are so cool  thanks john - great photos :) bet it was a good day

Hi Beth, That particular piece was at the Edenbridge and Oxted Show, Arbalist attended there but I don't know if he picked up any information on it.

I would go along with your assumption of it being well chamfered out at the rear and then welded and ground off flat

The picture of the Mistletoe (12) would give you even more nightmares as that is all forge welded together

rightio - i did look long and hard at that before i realised it said mistletoe at the bottom, yes how traumatic, extremely groovy though - love that someone made mistletoe at all... theyre coming in from every angle....! i like how the middle sections of the work on the first picture (with the key) are done too - theres some really beautiful things there eh?

Something that that jumps out at me is the obvious lack of overt fabrication-seems like all these different smiths went out of their way to insure that only the real, forged joinery is apparent to the viewer. So glad to see that, makes me feel a little less crazy for insisting that to be one of the base-lines of work leaving one's shop.
Ditto with the dimentions of stock employed in the pieces-even if paralleled-sided,rolled stock, was used, the smith made sure that the design created the impression that everything is tapering, that all surfaces were lovingly forged.
The overall neatness/symmetry,great regularity of joinery and parts also seem to be the trademark, the shared ethic/technique of the participating smiths.
Many very well executed classic smithing moves were used very freely and casually,sq.corners and welds in scrolls,pass-throughs forged even after punching, and others. All that is combined with interesting, innovative useof these old, classy elements.
In short, everythng that i feel is the must for quality forged work was practiced here, making it a joy to behold.
Lovely work,John, thank you so much for these photos!.
