July 30, 201114 yr This little something weighs at around 100 lbs. It really is an anvil, as it has numerous hammering marks.
July 30, 201114 yr Any makers marks? Can you tell if it is cast or forged? Or if there is a hardened steel plate on the top. First guess is that it is a sawmakers, but it just could be a nice block of hardened steel.
July 31, 201114 yr I'm always on the lookout for these type anvils, but never seem to see any in my area. I wonder how many sawer's anvils have been discarded as scrap because nobody realized they were anvils.

September 26, 201114 yr I'm always on the lookout for these type anvils, but never seem to see any in my area. I wonder how many sawer's anvils have been discarded as scrap because nobody realized they were anvils. That's how I found mine bought it for 35 bucks weighs 95 lbs its a nice bench anvil.
September 26, 201114 yr If anyone in the northern NH/southern Maine area is interested, I can tell you where you can probably find a sawyer's anvil similar to this. It's at an antique shop in Wells, Maine, or was as of early August. I didn't bother asking about the price, since I didn't really need a sawyer's anvil and, judging from his prices on other stuff, the proprietor of that shop isn't particularly interested in giving good deals.
