February 21, 201115 yr Hello everyone, My name is Addison de Lisle, and I am new to these forums though I have run across them a few times before in various web searches. I am a senior at the Maine College of Art and I am just getting into blacksmithing. My first experience was at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts last summer, when I took a two-week course with Alice James. I loved it, and have been focusing on it at school since then. This winter I bought a small anvil (125 pound English anvil), a nice post vice, and a gas forge, and am looking forward to getting to use them when I finish up school. Most of my work at school has been focused on locks, though I also have been making a lot of nails for part of my thesis. I just registered here today and am looking forward to learning from you guys. "See" you around :)

February 21, 201115 yr Hi Addison, Welcome to the site and your new career. One of our members here in the UK is a Josh de Lisle (would that be a distant relative?) Here are a couple of items made by him during his College course at Hereford I believe. His Horse interpretation sculpture and his Mercury's Helm Something to possibly aspire to if you like that style of 'smithing, and to enjoy anyway
February 21, 201115 yr Author Thanks everyone! I don't know of anyone named Josh de Lisle in my family, though it is possible. Either way, those pieces are quite nice, thanks for showing them!
February 22, 201115 yr Hey Addison, Welcome to IFI! Lots of info here. It's like an online college blacksmithing course only it is free and it has hundreds of professors from around the world. Feel free to pick their brains. (But wash your hands afterwards). Mark<><
