golgotha forge & anvil Posted December 4, 2010 Share Posted December 4, 2010 make sure ur firebricks are rated at 2700 degrees and not 2000 deg like standard fireplace firebrick..I didn't know this until I watched a video at purgatoryironworks.com..guud place for nifty ideas...good luck!!! pkrankow Posted December 5, 2010 Share Posted December 5, 2010 An enclosed solid fuel forge? Neat. Yes the higher temperature bricks are better, but the 2000F bricks have a useful service life. I would go to stock removal on that blade at this point. You really wanted to establish more shape while it was thicker. I am not a knife maker, I have tried a couple times though.
