I am a blacksmith from rogue river oregon. looking to get some information on this anvil vise. the stewart handy worker, manuf. by chicago flexible shaft co. any help will be great. this weighs 60 lb and has a 5/8 hardy hole. I believe it is the Stewart No. 9 Ball Bearing Shearing Machine. Pretty cool. I think the Stewart comes from one of the men that was a founder and inventor with the firm. Check the link Irnsrgn posted, it has some base info about the company. Otherwise, my searches haven't found much more on this outfit. I gears on the end don't seem to have any funtion to the vise operation. Sure would like to know what they were used for. I picked up 3 of these last week. brunetta Posted November 2, 2006 Author Share Posted November 2, 2006 I don't think they are keyed for roller, there is no keyway, but the bottom shaft looks like it has been cut off.
