Anvil Question

Recommended Posts

As with any item, the questions come down to what is it worth to you? is it in any reasonable condition? do you want/need it? what is the asking price? are you trying to turn it immediately for resale? can you afford to spend the money?

If you need an anvil, and this one is cheap enough (or you have enough money to spend), and it's in good enough condition, buy it. Otherwise......

Postman mentions Hill anvils very briefly in AIA in the section titled English Anvils. He says that he recorded three with "Hill Burmingham" stamped on the side opposite the weight markings. He also states that he believes that Hill was the manufacturer.

Just my opinion, but from the picture of the one that he shows in the book, it looks generically like many of the other mid 19th century English anvils. As far as I know, these were all wrought iron, steel faced anvils.
