May 27, 201016 yr Minimal info and only one pic on the ad but looks like it's worth checking out. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/tls/1761702274.html
May 27, 201016 yr It would be a good deal if it is in reasonable shape,it must weigh around 400lb and with the stand, way less than a dollar per lb.
May 27, 201016 yr xxxx, just sent this guy an email as well. figuring you beat me to it though. Grats!
May 28, 201016 yr So how big do you figure it is? I made him a sliding offer based on what it weighs... He contacted me and said I have first right of refusal... I am going to send my boy down to gather it up but need to figure out what it weighs so I can pay the guy.... my best guess is 425-450... Any thoughts?
May 28, 201016 yr Including the stand I think your right in there. Then again, it could be around 500 with stand
May 28, 201016 yr Including the stand I think your right in there. Then again, it could be around 500 with stand I was saying without the stand... I think its heaver than that with the stand... I bet the stand is 150lbs.... I'll report back tomorrow :)
May 28, 201016 yr Based on the dimensions given, and on dimensions given for several anvils on google, I'd say it weighs closer to 600. Seller's post has been deleted from Craigslist, but IIRC it was 22.5" by 6" face, with anvil height being in the teens. Even if it is "only" 500, the deal is still a "can't pass up" one.
May 29, 201016 yr Well not as big as I had hoped but at 410lbs still a fair size. Nice shape. Stand was 180lbs
May 29, 201016 yr I did get it. I told him I would pay $450 if it was over 350. $500 if it was over 400 and $650 if it was over 500. I am pretty sure it's a mousehole. The guy brought it with him from England. I also got a #2 fly press for $50 that has a broken handle. And I do think it's a keeper. It's in better shape than the 350 lb Trenton that I sits in the shop now
May 29, 201016 yr Cool. That's nice of you to give him more than asking price. I'm sure he is happy with that. Please post pictures when they are available.
May 30, 201016 yr Before hitting it with a wire wheel Its got some chipping on the front edge but I think it will dress up... the hardy hole is really clean for a big anvil.... the only real "bad" that I can tell is its pretty flat back to the start of the hardy hole then it slopes off bad, its about 3/16 low at the tip of the tail... Anyone have any opinion on what it is? it has kind of a spine that runs to the waist under the bick.... I was told that was indicative of a Mousehole..
May 31, 201016 yr The sharp tops to the feet are typical for the later Mouseholes too, while Peter Wright went to flat tops of the feet. It's a good looking anvil. I hope it works well for you. If you are looking to get rid of your Trenton, feel free to send it my way.
