February 23, 201016 yr Thanks for all of your contributions Forgemaster, we love ya here! Good example of "experience trumps the book": Flashing the oil. I don't think you'll find it recommended in any heat treating book, in fact the only one I read about it in, frowned on it. The best solution is the simplest one that works. We ain't building airplanes here. Forgemaster does what's easiest for him and works for the customer. "Good enough" is good enough. And usually the customers won't pay for "best" either.
February 23, 201016 yr http://books.google....page&q=&f=false Grant, start on the bottom of page 188. This is from over a century ago. They call it "blazing off" though. I only point it out because you say it is not in any book. Maybe not in any modern book, but it is published. Phil
