BadKarma
I am in the planning stage of building my first forge and have a question: What's the difference between Kaowool and Durablanket? Why would I choose one over the other? So far I'm trying to choose between a steel paint bucket or a freon bottle for the shell. Thanks. pkrankow
Brand is the big difference. There are some small differences if you carefully read the msds for each product. If you are selecting similar temperature ratings, thickness, and density they are equivalent to each other. Phil

Frosty
Like Phil says brand is the main difference. Applying a stabilizer, rigidizer, etc. is a good idea. It makes the blanket tougher and encapsulates the fibers which can be a lung hazard. You might consider using single wall stove pipe for the forge shell. It's commonly available, easily worked, requires no special tools and can be made any diameter you want by snapping different diameters together at the seam.
