JNewman
One of the OABA members took a trip through asia and visited a lot of blacksmith shops. A few years ago he did a slideshow of his trip at an OABA meeting. The shops ranged from a place in Japan that looked nicer than my livingroom to a square of sidewalk in India with a hole in it which was the smiths firepot. Many if not most of the blowers in use were built from bicycles or bicycle parts. Many of the anvils were a piece of round bar or even a large sledgehammer buried in the ground. These were all blacksmiths making their living out of these shops.
chyancarrek
I love to see that kind of ingenuity in play! So much of what we do is based on "home-spun solution" and the wonderfully diverse paths taken can be amazing. Thanks for sharing that Steve! Finnr
I have a buddy that hauls a seriously battered old anvil and a bike powered blower to do demos. Real clever use of what you have around. Finnr
Rob Browne
Kind of shows up our obsession with having the "right" equipment for the hobby. How many times are we asked where to find a proper anvil or blower or forge when they can all be made out of scrap laying around us all. Hats off to the "inventor". Bentiron1946
I was looking around the Internet and found a similar set up that had all of the gearing notations for a person to make their own. Pretty neat stuff out there for one to find. This one produced more air with less cranking then a Buffalo 400. Thanks for the link.
