camdenhuffman
Looking for some support - I am wanting to forge swords now and was wondering if I the zoeller simple forge will be able to do up to 3' blades if I put a door on the back wall of the forge - Funds keep me from being able to spend a lot of cash due to this being more of a hobby and I dont sell what I produce. I can afford to do the Zoeller simple forge at this time with the funds I have but not able to do a forge similar in construction but basically double the cost of the before mention forge. Plans to build a simple gas forge My friend has an NC forge we use for knives but I am wanting to take the step to have my own and be able to try sword making Any guidance would be very helpful.... Frosty
Welcome aboard, glad to have ya. Larry's forge design and burners will easily reach welding heat. If you're going to modify it to build a long forge, stick with the same burner to forge volume ratio and it'll do it. You might want to get the advice of the bladesmiths here though, there's only a short time in the making of a sword when you want to get the whole thing hot at once. If you'll click "User CP" at the top of the blade and edit your profile to show your location it can make a big difference. IFI is represented by members from more than 50 countries and a lot of info is location specific. If local fokl know you're there they can invite you to gatherings, tip you to tool deals and offer hands on help. Frosty
Steve Sells
You only need that for heat treating as a normal fire pot is what I use for swords until I need to HT.
