Marshiland
Hi everyone, I'm brand new to the forum. I have a question for anyone who's worked or trained abroad and could really use some advice. I am considering going to China to work (I've already spent a year there) and I would like to have my partner come with me. He has a degree in metal work (iron) and has trained as a blacksmith for a year, but needs more training and/or work experience. At the moment, he helps make gates and small parts for industrial purposes (small pieces for windows, refrigerators, etc) but would dearly love to become an artisan blacksmith. So, two questions: 1. Are there metalworking jobs in China that he, as a foreigner, could do? 2. Are there any training programs for blacksmithing in China? Thanks very much in advance. Frosty
Welcome aboard Marshiland, glad to have you. China is a HUGE country and I'm sure you can find what you're looking for if you look in the right place. One member here, Philip, is in Sichwan and is a blacksmith, teaches and does all sorts of metal work. I'm sure he'll pipe up sooner or later. If you'll click "User CP" at the top of the page and edit your profile to show your location it can make a big difference. IFI is represented by members from more than 50 countries and a lot of info is location specific. Frosty
