primtechsmith
This anvil is owned by a guy in our group. Rumor has it that this anvil is from the 1700's and has stayed in his family from generation to generation. Never got a chance to ask him. Not really sure I want to. The story is much better not knowing if it is true or not! The anvil does look to be very old. You get a good sense of the size here by the coffee maker...The anvil has no markings that I could see. Super small hardy hole...I just thought it was cool! Peyton
GobblerForge
Cool anvil. It could be as old as you say by the shape. It is in remarkably good shape. I would recomend never trying to "improve" it. Use it with kindness and it will perform well. As a note to help you with dating it, Mouse Hole, an English anvil maker, started puting pritchel holes in theirs about 1820. Not saying this a Mouse Hole, but it gives a time line as to when impovements were happening in the anvil industry. Gobbler

ThomasPowers
Also note that the pritchel could have been added later---it looks pretty clean compared to the wear on the rest of the piece. Thomas
primtechsmith
I forgot to add that in. The pritchel hole did look drilled. Peyton
