My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
When I read a thread I read the whole thread. How else will I know what someone is talking about. I don't read threads with thousands of replies. Way too much useless conversation in those loooong threads. But anyway. Yeah I was talking about the big brass fitting jet thing that came in the burner. This is a very easy fix if someone else is having the same issue with one of these Amazon forges.

I had a successful heat treat!
Nice. I haven't gotten into any hardening or tempering or anything like that yet. Still a lot to learn.

Newbie to gas forges in the UK
That forge looks just like the one I have except mine has doors on the ends. You probably have the exact same burner as me. Check out my recent post about the burner. Let me try to link it here. Here it is https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/77478-my-brass-mig-tip-hole-too-big/

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
Well me and my son both had the same idea to make the hole smaller. It's the simplest possible solution and it worked. We heated the tip with a torch and tapped it with a hammer to make the hole smaller. I figured why not try it if I'm gonna cut the tip off anyway it wouldn't matter if I ruined the tip. It was so easy. Grabbed the piece with vise grips, heated just the tip with a regular little propane torch for maybe 30 seconds, and stood it up on the anvil and tapped the hole a few times with a small hammer and it got a lot smaller. Now the forge gets so hot that I can hardly grab stuff out of it. I already ordered the printer tips. I'll just hold on to them for future endeavors.

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
No my numbers are right. We must be talking about 2 different things. I'm measuring the inside of the pipe that is the biggest part of the burner. Isn't that the mixing tube you mentioned?

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
Ok I just measured the inner diameter and it is not perfectly round. One way I get .86" and the other way is .89". So it's actually quite a bit bigger than .5"

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
When you say the size of the burner how do you measure that? I know the outer diameter of the burner is 1". I measured it in order to make a choke for it.

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
I already did the rigidizer and plistix. It's in the last picture. So you're saying that the hole in the mig tip is too big? What size is the hole in the 3d nozzle? Oh you meant .5 or .6mm

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
Here is a side by side of the jet and a .030 mig tip. You can see there is a big difference in size. I'm currently out of gas, so can't show it running. I'll get more pics tomorrow.

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
The choke solved the flame in the tube problem. I probably will end up making a burner or 2, but I'd like to get this one working too. It gets a bright orange color, but not yellow and the piece cools pretty quickly. It burns through a lot of gas too. That's another reason I'm thinking that hole is too big.

I just said it was before I added refractory. The brick is also gone now.

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
The problem is that it is NOT getting yellow hot. I haven't even tried welding because I know it isn't hot enough. This is a pre-made forge burner. These parts have to be made for something. I can't imagine that they manufacture these jets specifically for these little forges. Here's some pictures. They were taken before I added refractory.

My brass "mig tip" hole too big?
Everything I read about gas burners talks about the size of the mig tip. My forge doesn't use a mig tip, but instead has a big brass part that serves the same purpose. I don't know what the part is called. Anyway I'm thinking the hole in mine is too big. I stuck a piece of .030 mig wire in it and there was a lot of wiggle room. Looking at it next to a .030 mig tip you can see a big difference in the size of the holes. My forge will not get yellow hot. I added a choke to it and that did help, but still not getting weld hot. You guys think I need a smaller hole(mig tip)? Are there replacement parts that will screw right on? What is this part called?

Happy father's day
I spent the day with both my boys(26,16). We just hung out at the house. My youngest put together my gift. A new gas grill. Now I have a good reason to keep an extra propane tank on hand.

Anvil set up and made some tools
I got the new anvil set up a couple days ago. I haven't done anything with the edges yet. Taking crazy goat ladies advise to use it and see where I want to work on it. Then yesterday I made a couple tools. First one is a hold fast for the anvil. I used 3/4" round. The round hole in this anvil is big. The tool is real big for this little anvil, but it works great and I can angle it to have the piece right over the hardy hole when I need to. The second tool is a bending wrench made with 1/2" rebar. One end has a 1" gap and the other is 1/2".

Happy father's day
Just want to say happy father's day to all the dads here. I love being a dad and I hope you all have a great day.

I've purchased an actual anvil
Thanks Crazygoatlady. I'm sitting here looking at it right now. I just ran into a little issue. I got the hardy hole cleaned up. Measured it with the caliper and I'm getting .93 inch or 23.6 mm. The anvil is advertised as having .7 inch hardy hole. I was gonna run up the hardware store and see if I could get something to put in just to make sure I got it filed out right. Am I gonna have to file it out to 1 inch?

I've purchased an actual anvil
Anvil delivered today. It seems really nice except inside the hardy hole is extremely rough. It's gonna take some serious filing to get any tools in there. Maybe that had something to do with the low price.

How much do you pay for propane in your state? (or country.)
How much should a full grill tank weigh?

Hummingbird feeder holder
Yeah it's cool to look at it and show it to people and say "I made that". I hope she gives me more projects to do.

Hummingbird feeder holder
The other day my significant other asked me if I had a hook or something to hang the hummingbird feeder that she just got. I said I can make one. Oh boy a project! I had a piece of railroad spike that I had drawn out and used for some other stuff. I took that piece and made a hummingbird feeder holder. When finished I coated it with beeswax. That's the first time I have done that. I think it turned out nice.

I've purchased an actual anvil
Yeah I got it for $55.71 and with tax it was $59.06 shipped. I will post my experience with it. I know I'm gonna have to dress the edges and remove at least some of the paint. That's no problem. I love playing with the angle grinder.

I've purchased an actual anvil
I could not pass up the price. I've heard nothing but good reviews on these little anvils and the price is unreal. I ordered on ebay one of the Vevor 66 lb blue anvils with the useless prichel hole. They say that they are great beginners anvils. What is unbelievable is the fact that they are selling them for $55 with free shipping. They can't be making money on these things. What would it cost to ship a 70 lb package fedex from CA to PA?

It followed me home
Yeah it's 2 pounds. It has better shape to it than my 2.5 pound cross peen
