old post but I have a bunch of the same metal that I got for free. Yesterday I smooshed a short chunk of it down for a nail header. My plan for it though is to incorporate into a railing or as a leg of furniture or similar. In my case I have about 40 feet of it or something that I got for free and there is no money way up north here from scrap yards.

would add... the 3/8" d garage door springs I have forge weld together nicely and make good grappling hooks. I have a pile, various garage door springs, different sizes so would love to hear more ideas!

Big fan of old medieval / timberframe / castle sort of architecture. If I google medieval blacksmith shop all that come up are images from computer games, artists drawings, or similar. Usually they look very cool but of course are not real. Anyone have photos or know of any actual historical metal working shops / foundries /armouries that survived that were build with big timberframe style with stone etc... maybe a water wheel? Like the lego blacksmith shop - is there a real life version out there someplace besides maybe disneyland? photos of course welcome.

this is old thread... but I melt copper fine with my 15KW US solid inductio forge. I had to do significant electrical upgrade to have the 220 service for it to work and it was more than that... but it is also great for heating steel

Cluaran forge sells them now out of Canada. I have some of his coils and they are great.

I have a bunch that is from larger shop doors - the 20' wide sort of doors, so the springs are 6" in diameter or so. I've made small prybars, handles for garden tools, plant hangers, and just had fun testing different twists. Though about making some 'wands' for the harry potter types.... I do find as soon as I've tapered it down or flattened it then it is tricky to work as it cools so darn fast and is tough stuff. One coil I had was square which was better. I've been wondering if I could use a bunch of the circle shapes in a gate, table or similar piece without much forging at all.

I'm way north in the yukon... I just dragged half dozen of these home free from the dump. I have access to a plasma cutter so going to see if I can get setting right to cut some pieces out of it. I don't have a power hammer as yet. My hope is that the CNC plasma cutter should be able to get a blank for bending tool, or pieces for jigs or hardy tools.
