  1. Plus ive seen over 3 postings on kastolite and thought like medicine things change and improve every 50 years or so. If theres a better way to post such obvious inquiries here, please lemme know. Thanks to all trying to help and not just build self esteem. Some of the kastolite directioons are better than others but im not mad at the most recent poster. Odd approach
  2. No one is specifically asked to answer unless you know. Happy sunday and lets keep this posting based on my question please.
  3. And the vevor bag doesnt have any real burn in instructions or insttructions on how long to keep wet etc Thanks
  4. Its downstairs but i think it said 10:3. (Im not sure, so relax all) i just figured if someone had experience with it specifically they might share. (Watery, chunky, doesnt stick to blanket etc) Ill tell anyone how kastolite3 works if asked. It didnt say anything about cutting off the 1" of blanket from the ends for said refractory. Thanks
  5. Ìm using the vevor brand because it came w forge. Im also debating cutting blanket back 1 inch so i can refractory all the edges around . Sorry if this is a rewrite. I got put in time out
  6. Does anybody have a good recipe for vevors refractory cement. Its going on rigidzed blanket. If youve got burn in details that would also be awesome info Thanks and happy saturday
  7. I do really appreciate the people here to help or get help. You guys have had lots of subtle ideas i wouldnt have considered but theyre really good ideas .thanks. Weve gotta go somewhere and cable is difficult. When i referred to success i got 2 knives, and 5 pieces of cable joined about 1" out of 12-18" that internet peoople have told me looks unwelded. Those are successes. And 1" is enough for success. Different than alot but thats ok. The failures have been 12-18" and i didnt get 1". Hence just asking for help on internet. Also my successful knives were made from 1.25" and popped up in a series of failures. I can be really honest. I taught myself this stuff and struggle to get help from folks whove experiance with cable. Thanks all, last one got off couse. Thanks
  8. Just to the cable folks can i twist in half 2" cable when its just hot enough to forge weld or will i need to go way higher. Would there be an easy way to set that for the holder where i just pull it out from forge and drop into holder. This is a new piece so i have7' to grab by. I think i know to twist w monkey wrench? Thank you to all And ask wilford brimley about your grits and butter question. Its funny there are two separate answers depending on age. Now stay off snowball. ( inside joke for those 9-60). I can imagine its hard to stay organized forging if you have alot of guy pics since you require age verification. These things struggle enough without unrealistic expectations for new people. If you cant tell a 9 yr old, dont get back into dating And my mom is probably a master caster with over 35 years teaching metal sculpture in a nm college She wouldnt be impressed either. Im her little prince You are dumb if you think a 9 yr old would call themselves a little prince
  9. I guarentee at 48 i wouldnt have let you go into your diatribe in person. Just bebecause someone dorsnt have your obvious defects doesnt mean anything. That should have been the first thing a normal person would figure out on their own, even brain injured (but i gotno proof) Though ive talked to other members who say to take it easy ecause your braiin is so something, (maybe age) impaired. The really sad thing is you met my 70s mom years ago and took a photo of her buttin tin foil. Grow up. And stay off my posts you grumpy thing. I know the available advice, butter And thanks Goods for your proper usage of a help website. I like the idea about just looking. Thats hard to get used to trusting. Thanks again
  10. I had a feeling there would be weird drafts. Thanks much Does thst mean hottest between burners? Its a pentagon. Thanks
  11. Is 1/8 quart enough to rigidize and enough metrakote enough to cover this kiln? Thanks Thanks guys, good stuff, would you still metrakote. The 5vside shape is much smaller than my 1 burner rectangle Ad for forge said 4 minutes to 2600 degrees. Ill have to wear shoes Tx When i said puff i meant the blanket and when i said off i meant temp under blanket, kastolite and metrakote. Is it 20% etc. Cooler. OR FOrge wont go over 2100 degrees. My fire port is also about 3-4 inches closer to the floor of forge. Tx
  12. Am i just starting hammering too colds and its just a matter if me crushing the metal. How could cable not melt back together at 2300?. Is warmest place directly under a burner or between two burners about 5" apart
  13. And i have plenty of time, i just dont handle any type of delay. It makes me snap. Its why i stay here. This glowing personality only really comes out when people move slower than i can handle, and i have no issue yelling at strangers, regardless of their size. It would suck to receive good training and only be able to stay in a mood to say thanks. Thats not me. Any idea on a workmen that carries a welder amd 20 amp fuse on their truck. We have alot of home construction close. Thanks guys, and im 48 or 49. April 76. They threw the bicentennial for me. Thanks Now a 9 year old wont know what a bicentennial even is. I got special pennies made for my arrival
  14. Ive "made" cable about 8 times successfully. No clue why it worked. The cable i have is supposed to run as 1840 i think. Wjhen i hit my cable, it ends up as dust. Ifbi hit it 10 times, 10 piles o dust underneath and the cable is dissappearing. Ive got pretty strong hands i think i can twist thin wire well even at going faster than snails pace. Its why last year i had over 20 mig recommendations to myboard from 12 folks. ( no one asked or even mentioned amperage and i have 0% interest in learning a new skill) Friendly people, wouldnt it look good for my plugs usability if it charges my golf cart, 48v, i think 15 amp. Today is always the same Thanks, Pigsticker I have regular tongs that come in the 5 pack. I could forgeweld a new one with plans, but bought would be inevitability better. I just spent 80$ on a double burner forge ill need to fill with expensive powder so good tongs seem luxurious. Many thanks and happy friday
  15. Can something happen to cable so it just cant be forge welded Even if its "loose". or shouldnt cable hot enough go together with a wood stick hammer? Its been soaked in kerosene and then i do a separate heating to burn it dry and im Comfortable its pretty clean as theres no weird or lingering fresh smoke when i cook out kero Tx much Thanks jhcc. Good spotting
  16. All good stuff. Thank you Could i forgeweld the handle on or is that missing it?
  17. My new forge arrived with the puff cut to shape and a bag of refractory cement. How much will i lose without the special puff and kastolite 3. I still am going to coat in metrakote. Is it hotter under flame or between the two. About 6" apart. Thanks guys and gals
  18. I have the body of a strong 9 yr but im 74? Frosty said he met my mom. Never became an eagle Scout so trying to relivemy care free upper 60s. And if i was nine, it shouldnt change answers. And a 9 year can post as late as i do?? Several after 9 pm Id post a pic but a sharp 9 yr old would send their neighbors pic
  19. Thank you Daswulf. Stainless hd Hose clamps didnt seem to handle holding it before breaking last time. And wire wrap doesnt last ass long as the clamps Maybe i need to just get it hotter before i hit. Ive got a new 2 burner forge coming. I am just making knife billets but i never said it. Im getting my knife badge this weekend from the troop and an extra smore. Thanks much for your help i like the handle pieces idea.is there a distance fron burner i could hold 1.5 and 2" cable if i used it Gloveless. I alway hear some distance and people can hold it bare. Not tryiing to get tougher or anything And go safety!
  20. ThNk you for early reply. Are we probably looking at 15 each or25-$30. Thanks again Is there a good / bad alloy type? Tx
  21. So for welding the end of the cable, what should i expect to pay per hour and how many welds should they get in 1 hour. 1.5 and 2". Thanks Really appreciate the help
  22. Im cool with your idea but haven't found one on a cable, electric truck, i asked my ac guy. If i can find the welder how much per tack. There are city guys around, how long will each tack cost and take to do? Will it cut cable to tack it? Thanks much See i thought id be more successful finding someone to do a fuse at a time. You just pay a welder by the hour regardless of job? Thanks
  23. Finally, two non insulters in a row. Thanks guys. This is so extra to all the ridiculous stuff i did just to forge? If i knew anyone with a mig i can be nice twice a year for short spurts. Im really pretty sedentary. Imagine hearing working w cable would take an acdc degree. I coulda done doctor degreed up. Thanks all
  24. Gby. Thank you very much for numbers and names. Very good info. Do amazons plug into regular plug? If not, will anything regular den wall powerered be enough to tack cables ends? This will really be my SOLE use for this too. Thanks for helping
