  1. painting something that is going to be thrown at an iron stake ("like horseshoes")is just plain stupid.
  2. I too am fascinated by the induction coil heater. In fact I don't really understand how it can draw no current when not heating a part.Is this your own made device or did you buy it? I learn something every day on this site. Thanks!
  3. I was admiring this piece in the gallery and wondering what kind of finish, if any, was going on it.
  4. I like this. Wonder about finish?
  5. I wonder how to "texture" the heads and still be able to grip them to drive into the wood? Lee Valley Tools published some experiments done to compare holding power of wood screw threads with machine threads in wood. If the threads are tapped into the the wood the machine thread performed as well or better than wood screw. But you have to turn them in.
  6. why mud the joints? paint to harden the surface and fix really bad dings when they occur.should give a lot of service at 1/3 the cost of metal.
  7. that is the nicest scroll! I presume the fuller was to make the detail in the middle . Are you planning to make a lot of these? Would a simple spring fuller also do the job or is there some other reason for a special fuller?
  8. anyone have any idea what kind of steel the tracks off a 50's era oliver crawler tractor would be ? Of course there are 3 parts to it, the pins, the chain(or rail),and the grouser plates.I have a rather large supply in the form of two worn out tracks on a machine im rebuilding. I'll start experimenting but it's possible the collective knowledge here can save me some missteps.
  9. Well!Thats quite a process.I wikied mokume so I understand something about it but have some questions. The copper and nickle ,were they jewelry materials? How thick? How did you cut the anvil shapes for the indent anvil and the mokume?yeah some pics of process would be great. Many thanks.
