Hi all! I've been lurking for a while, mostly finding answers to questions, but I decided it's time to join the forums.
I've always been interested in smithing but it always just seemed like too much of a hobby to get into, but in recent years I've gotten more and more into making things, so back in the spring, I pulled the trigger and took my first bottle opener class at Prospect Hill Forge. Then I took the three-day knife-making course, and now I'm hooked.
I just bought a "starter kit" from a guy who is moving to Florida and has become partially disabled and no longer able to smith much. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse for a table forge, a wall drill, leg vise, and anvil (the anvil isn't in great shape, and has some swayback, but for the price of the package, I'll take it to start out).
My main interest is in armoring and weaponsmithing, as I'm a huge medieval history buff. I've been working on my cold work skills with some 16 ga mild steel, a piece of railroad track, and a dishing stump.
Oh, and I make excellent beer, so if I go to any local hammer-ins, I'll provide the refreshments!
Glad to be a part of the forums.
