Haha yup frost heck actually I'm bout to go outside and make a guillotine tool also my dies are gonna be leaf spring as well
-
Yeah those vises tend to be exspensive, ive been going to gatherings but idk if 180 for one that has been rebuilt is good or not (the president fpr my sextion of ncabana result one and is selling it ) and hopefully when u get alot more free time I'm gonna go to flee markets more, often to look for scrap metal, tools ect
-
I did haggle as much as possible with him originally it was gonna be 200 for the lot and i got him down that much which is decent and my thinking was that for my location deals are few and far between so to pay a little over 10 US Dollars each is pretty good
-
Well, they are Irwin original brand, so how does that brand rank to all of y'all? and they look like the work and yup I could use them Really often
-
In otuer knews i found somebody selling welding vise grips there are 7 of the 12 inch vise grips and 8 of the 6 inch vise grips he wants 160 for all of them is that a good price or no?
-
Ok that makes more sense now that i think about it, im just hoping he sends pictures and it looks like it is in good working order
-
But if the springs are mild steel, they wouldnt be springy right? They would just hold their shape
-
So the mounting brackets are failry simple to make?
-
Yes I know this stuff about nc abana I'm already in the process of joining
-
Sorry for not specify yes hot twisting
And also if possible to get to another subject what style tongs/hammers, and what kinds of hardie tools should i look out for? Pictures are appreciated
-
Well would the 4 inch one be good for twisting rr spikes and square stock that is smaller?
-
Ok so go for robust one of about 6 inches ok
-
I know how you feel, you will eventually get enough info to understand alot of this stuff its hard at first but all the reading is very rewarding
-
I certainly will post pics if i get any, and i was just using the 3 inch vise as an example, I have no idea what size it is yet, what size would be good for twists and pounding etcetera?
-
Ok that is along the same lines as I was thinking, amf yes I want to make my own hardie tools but if I can get some for cheap its a win win in my opinion
-
I realize but i meant what are some realistic prices assuming they are in pretty good conditions
-
Ok so for a 3 inch wide post vice up to 30 dollars is good any more than that is overpaying? What about for hammers, hot cuts, drifts, tongs, etcetera
-
So, my friend found a man the other day that was selling a propane forge/ anvil combo and i decided to email him asking what tools he had for sell and I was wondering what would be good prices for used tools. I know for a fact he has a post vise and a mandrel for sell, so what would be good prices?
-
And actually from front to back it is about 17 or 18 inches
-
True true i understand what u mean i think i may go that rpute after all since lime u say thats a fraction of a cost c9mpared to the cost of a forge, ill report back when the burner is fixed
Also sorry to everybody for not properly using quoetes like i need to

useless quoting removed again
The problem is even with a better fuel to air ratio the outward angle is to severe so the rire is hitting the last inch and a half 9n each side with basically 16 inches of dead space in between so even by changing the ratio it wouldnt work without recasting
-
But the burners are already cast int9 the castable refractory so I would need to recast the top of the bottlw which is exspensive
-
Yes that makes complete sense, and yes ur understand is correct they are angled outwards to the openings on each end but what do you mean when by , hitting one side of the hole in the refractory before entering the forge chamber?
-
I know an angle is a good thing bu i meant thay they are pointing to the outsides of the front and back which is making the fire leave the forge
