Bob, you have the drawing correct, add a thin layer of Plistix or Metrikote. Also when installing the hinges, on one side of the bottom have two knuckles up and on the other side have 3 knuckles up. This insures that the two parts are always in the same orientation.
Let me know if I can help you. You can find my contact info on my profiles page.

Bob, if you follow my plans you can use 1/4 - 20 bolts to bolt on the hinges and can use metal conduit parts the way Larry Zoeller at www.ZoellerForge.com suggests, or better follow Thomas' suggestion.

The Build a Gas Forge plans are written for a 20# Propane tank but also discusses using a Freon tank.

it is a tapered tip. Most any welding shop should have them or can get them in. One is designated as Tweeko T Tip.. Be careful that they are the tapered tip. Look at the pictures closely. I looked on both Google and Ebay and they both have standard tips mixed in the T listings.

Be sure and get T tips. They give better air flow.

I do not recommend using Satanite, use Kast-0-Lite instead. Kast-0-Lite is a light weight insolating castable refractory. When I apply Kast-0-Lite directly over the blanket I do not get any compression and no loss of efficiency, as a matter of fact the Kast-0-Lite improves the efficiency.

I would not suggest using both the Metrikote and ITC-100. There can be undesired effects by combining these products.
I believe that Metrikote is a better product for our uses and is costs much less.

An octagon has 8 EQUAL sides, not 4 sides with the corners knocked off.

I personally do not like square forges. With a round forge you can more easily cast the interior and induce a swirling of the heat in the forge and help reduce hot spots.

I too would suggest that you paint the interior with either Plistix or Metrikote. This will not only seal the breaks but improve the efficiency of the forge.
BTW, I think that Mikey meant Wayne rather than Wade.

I had written a document that was titled "Warning". It is not a "Release" or a "Waver". It is based on the Georgia law relating to Equine and Lama law and the You Pick It law. I believe that the all inclusive over reaching "Releases and Wavers" commonly used are over reaching and contrary to public policy and most are likely to be overturned if challenged. I believe that individuals and organizations are better off to use the wording in the article published by the Hammer's Arc. which is attached.

I have always cast about 1/2" thick just because of the space between the blanket and the edge of the door and it has always worked well. I see no reason that 3/18" would not work well and may be even 1/4" . 3/16" seems a little bit thin but try it and let me know how well it lasts.
If I had free iTc-100 I would use it too!

I just cast over the blanket with Kast-0-Lite then paint the Metrikote over that.

Have you read the Build a Gas Forge attachment on the Forge Supplies page of my web-site?
If you want two layers you would need 4 feet of Inswool, 3 bags of Kast-0-Lite and one pint of Metrikote.

It does not appear that the gears or cylinder serve any purpose. Then, what is the gear on the side?

I would used a Kiss Block rather than the spring swage. Make a 3/4" block and weld it to a piece of angle iron about an inch wide. Clamp it onto the bottom die with a C clamp. Draw down to 1" square first then forge to round. You might want to use about a 1/2" spring fuller to isolate the mass and to get a smoother transition.
