Anthony, you will have better control with a gate valve, you will be able to more precisely adjust the air and be able to find that exact spot each time. If you had put your gas input down somewhere in the vertical run you will get better mixing.
I run my forge about .5# pressure. I weld Damascus billets without flux. You can adjust the atmosphere in the forge just like an oxy/ace torch. Adjust a little gas, adjust a little air until you get the atmosphere you need. For general forging I want a natural flame and it is quiet, for welding I want a reducing flame with about 6" of dragon's breath.
Let me know when I can help you again.

For the alloys info just get the ASM app at the playstore. It is free and more convenient.

Daswulf, you could not make a return trip?

Looks good to me except I would angle the burner more to run across the top to swirl the flame around inside the chamber.

There were a lot of tools made over the years by smiths for some purpose that later only they knew what they had made it for. like ausfire said it may have been for a swage or maybe something else.

Just a quick internet search brought up propane rated hose and quick disconnects. It's readily available so why you would use non propane rated parts on something you are selling is just stupid. If you want to risk your own safety fine but to profit from risking an unknowledgable buyers safety is just criminal and asking for trouble.
Why? compressed air connectors are about $3.00 a set. Propane connectors are about $46.00. Its the same reasoning for using the type hose being used. Not only do you not use air hose for Propane, you do not use Oxy/ace hose for Propane.

Much simpler than your proposed design, it does create the swirl effect. I agree with others about the floor. I have a soft fire brick inside my forge and prop work pieces up against it.

11" x13" is similar to a 20# Propane tank. They are about 12" X 12". It is larger than a Freon or Helium tank.
-
The main reason is that the 20# Propane tanks and Freon bottles are readily available and their design (the curved ends) provide for protection to the ends of the blanket and casting.

I think that the chains are readily available at farm supply stores. AnvilMan will chime in soon.. The chains are also used on hay conveyers.

The beauty of a VFD is that you can dial in the speed that you need.

I would consider a new 3 phase motor with an appropriate VFD. The new motors are generally 1800 rpm or 3600 rpm but with the VFD you can run it at the desired speed. You can get a VFD that will run a 3 hp 3 phase motor using 230v single phase power. There are several advantages to running a VFD and you could also wire it so that you could run other pieces of equipment. For an example I run my disk grinder, mill drill and drill press using one VFD.

I like to have the forge high enough that I don't have to squat to look at the work. I have mine at eye level and just do not stand and stare into it.

I think that we here at IFI have previously discussed these forges. The fire brick is a heat sink, even if the blanket is coated (which it does not appear to be) you will be constantly be repairing the interior. Without a cast interior you will poke holes in the sides almost every time you put metal in or out of the forge. The hose does not appear to be acceptable for Propane.
If your dad would like to talk to me regarding building a forge ask him to call me.
Let me know if I can help you.
