  2. Hey metal mangeler I did look into the linseed oil after the posts and realized that the linseed oil I used was not boiled but I did have some in the paint closet that was boiled as you said on the label thanks for the help guys as you can see I ain't much of a painter Hahahaha thanks grammer

  4. Thank you crossdawg I appreciate it it's 3 1/2 inch piece of coil spring from a f450 i used alotta sandpaper on that blade Hahahaha and it's still not a mirror finish haha as I don't have a very high power belt grinder so it's files and hand sander/sanded by hand haha thanks grammer
  5. Thank you guys very much I really appreciate it and I will take all of your advice into the next project BGD I do have a wire brush by the anvil but don't use it near enuff hahaha gotta remember to brush er clean and not drive er into the steel haha Thomas I will boil er next time I just rubbed er on once and I don't know much about it so great info and as you and JHCC have agreed on I will try the tung oil also all great helps and I really appreciate the help thanks grammer
  6. Hi Thomas thanks for the advice it's much appreciated And I never really thought about the smoothness up higher but makes alotta sense and that's what I will do my next go around for sure and it is comfy in my hand but I do think a rounder handle wood be better I used linseed oil fir the handle is that a good choice?
  7. Hahaha thanks for the insight guys and I will get the sander out and get that baby tuned up nicely I appreciate the words as I'm just a hobby smith and obviously need lotsa practice but just a great way to spend time and learning piles every time I'm in the forge thanks grammer
  8. Thanks tubalcain2 ya I left er as forged this time around and ya the handle is pretty squared but does actually feel nice in the hand
  9. Hi guys I built this knife for my brother it is a coil spring and here is the final product any thoughts are appreciated thanks grammer
  10. Put this fella together with a leaf spring it's a little big and heavy for my liking hahaha the handle is walnut and Purple Heart and as you can tell I still need a lot of practice with my hammer work haha any thoughts would be great thanks grammer

    2nd knife

Thank you mr powers I appreciate it I like the idea of riveting the tang and the tight fit is what I was going for hahaha but I need to work on my fine wood working skills as well it is filled with epoxy but having it flush with epoxy makes way more sense as the wet weather will probably destroy the handle I may put a coating of polyurethane to seal it all up there is so many different things to think of while doin this haha thank you very much

    2nd knife

Mornin guys this is my 2nd knife not perfect by any means but honest thoughts on it would be really appreciated the knife blade is a coil spring from a f-450 quenched in pre heated vegetable oil and tempered in the oven handle is cherry wood stained in Jacobean stain also used wood to cover the hole where the tang was inserted in the handle? the shot gun shell in the end of the handle was just for somethin a tad extra? thanks grammer

  18. hi little blacksmith thanks i appreciate it ya i did it in a course i took i was actually spossed to have a all metal handle with a fancy scroll at the end for a finger gaurd but was talkin to much and burned the end off the tang hahaha oops so i brought er home and put that handle on er i rekon it turned out pretty good for a mistake haha but anyways i drilled er and filed a bunch of marks in the tang {figurin that wood give the epoxy more to grab too} then i put er in a vise and hammered er on with a rubber mallet i aint a knife builder so im sure it didnt look pretty but it seems to have worked haha ive used er quite a bit and shes solid as can be so im happy with it i also took the dremel sanding disc too get the white on each end just for a little extra flair hahaha hope i answered your questions thank ya sir
