A set of skinners I forged for a father and two sons. The scales are antler from a deer they hunted with their grandfather before his passing, and the inscription is his initials plus harvest year. Forged 80CrV2 blades with hamon, bronze fittings and brass pins. Any time I can make something special, that has a lot of meaning to a customer and their family, I jump right on it - by far the most rewarding commissions. Sheaths by bladesmith Justin Allen Kirck.

This is a traditional Scottish Dirk with an antler handle. The blade is made from 440c stainless and has a mirror finish. It has Scottish Yew and nickel silver accents. The tip got boogered up because I dropped it in a parking lot, so I'm aware of that issue already. Thinking of carving an inset in the antler axis for a pewter clan badge. Also it's not actually bent, as the first picture suggests. Hope you can see in the other pictures that it's straight.

Hey folks! So I've been doing some research on stag handles. I've got some hunter-style blades made but they're yearning for a beautiful stag handle. The research I've found shows that people do this about 30 different ways lol. Some people state that they drill out what they can, then heat the tang up red hot and push it into the antler and it melts away like butter. Other people say they drill the entire thing out (even with a curve?!) and fit it that way. Some pin the handle, some don't. I've also seen where some seal the stag handle, some don't. Here are my two questions: 1. Wh

I forged this little slicer a few weeks ago and thought I would share some pics of it. I forged it from an old nicholson file. I filed in a rope pattern on the spine. The blade was clay coated with satenite and differentially heat treated. Giving it a hamon. Not the best one I have done and the pics don't do it much justice, but it shows up in person a lot better. It has a piece of stabilized mesquite burl with a red vulcanized spacer in between the whitetail antler. The blade is super sharp. A nice little slicer. Let me know what you guys think!
