Haven't been on here for a while Joel ?
forbidden is Glenn's latest tool to control bandwidth ;-)
no it seems to be a quirk that was introduced with one of the recent upgrades
what it normally means is that you missed out on a indepth and informative reply when the software disappeared the reply and instead told the poster that he/she has been forbidden
the poster will try to reply but doesn't allways work so they type forbidden
poster will usually go in later and change reply or start a new thread with forbidden in the title that the admins then manually merge with the thread (sucks to be you guys but keep up the good work)
We have gas shops over here that usually have a small range of odd fittings. There normal business is selling bottled gass
if that doesn't work like the others said try a hydraulic shop or a gas fitters wholesaler

im sure a lot of people will gain knowledge from that post
a lot of people would have shrugged there shoulders and ignored the OP and not bothered helping
but you have replied with a post that should not only help the OP but also anyone else interested
one day I will build a gas forge and it will be you and Crusty I ask for advice

First attempt , thin drums, rusty steel, paint layer, stick welder and they hold well done
you have along way to go but as a first go with the conditions you have there you done well to get it that good without blowing through
of course next time stack the odds in your favour
grind the crud off but try not to thin the already thin drums
as said concentrate the heat on the thicker material

have an awesome marri coffee table at home
wife seems to like the commercial stuff that can be brought at hardly normal and the like which I don't care for
looking to take advantage of jarrah for charcoal ;-)
but around these parts (Wine region) people all seem to be into anything made of old wine barrels
witch is a shame because there is so much better timber around to put in your house

Very nice
I like the way that you used the blemish in the slab as a feature

Back of a chimney ?
dous look to be a cover of some sort and fit for the job
-
in that case I can sell you forged bars of unobtainium
unobtainium is stronger than hellium, and lighter than airium
im not sure if this would work for you but I'm sure unaffordium would do the job you need to do
I have some drops out the back of beyond
if you need I can measure them

Probably try to make a swage block out of the 100 mm plate later
have to ID the large chunk first
-
Maybe the topic is a bit of a lie as I have now acquired a block of what I am told is carbon steel
the block is 770mm x 660mm x 280mm thick
I'm told that it is a billet from the westrail workshops
it should get delivered here Friday
pics to follow

Would scraping the unburnt coal away from the coke and then putting a empty upturned steel bucket/drum over the fire pot area work ?
I know you would need a largish steel bucket but I would think that the smoke would accumulate and choke the fire
but if you are in a high fire danger area or a timber shop witch seems the norm do what glen does and sleep safe

They look great
there is no reason anyone would not be happy with that set
except maybe the dragon
he only got one wing
gunna be a circle bird that one
but in all seriousness that is one very nice set

Looks great
I would have used a pipe bender myself
Use the largest die that fits and spread the rollers to there maximum opening
I have bent 33mm solid bar ( was a better grade than 1045 but can't quite remember what )
using the exact same bender in this vid

Yes Charles I seen that page only last week
that was the moment I decided I would make my own anvil
the guru has some good plans on making an anvil but have not seen a completed one on there like his plans
i will get the priceless holes drilled at the profile cutters and a 60 mm hole drilled for my hardy.
I will then cut and shape some 60mm bar and then weld together and weld into anvil top
top is going to cost $260au 200x900x60mm bis 80 cut and chamfered and drilled

Welcome aboard glad to have you! If you'll put your general location in the header you might be surprised how many of the IFI gang live within visiting distance.

We'll searching for a new anvil is australia is slow and boring work
so today I pulled out a piece of steel that was left over from a job three years ago
my plan is to use this as the base of my anvil
maybe just trim it a bit and weld a lop plate on or cat two ASO,s and weld them together and then weld top plate on
top plate will be 50or60mm bis alloy 80
this will be cut to resemble a face and German style pointy horn
I will then turn a horn from 4140 or something and weld it to the other end
I plan on a few prickle holes and a hardy hole
will end up looking something like uri,s anvils

1300mm x800 mm and100 mm thick has an eight missing

hey ky
if 1" layers are ok then how good would 4" layers be?
the layered plate idea seems ok but 1" seems abit on the light side to me
maybe you could use a thick top plate and then some 2"-4" layers welded up under that
have seen a hammer where big round bar was used and then they welded 2" square billets to the sides to increase mass
not sure about that theory either
are you buying your anvil material or looking to find it? as that will have a big impact on what you could use
If you had as much scrap as I do

Break it down and sell it off as parts but be sure that is ok with owner first
