  1. I built my own aswell. If you have access to materials and tools, I would recomend it. It is a great way to learn. I think I spent between $150 and $200 on mine by the time I was done. It is a small single burner, but it works great and I can weld in it no problem.

    Just something to consider.

  2. Funny you should bring this up, I was just cleaning out my toolbox at work yesterday. I came across some custom bent and welded wrenches. It took me some time to remember what I bent them for in the first place. Don't think I'll ever use them again either.

  3. I agree with the above several statements!

I have welded (diesel) fuel tanks at work many times without any problems. I don't like to do it, but I have to. But like Frosty said, there was a welder near me that was my friend's Grandfather. He had welded hundreds of fuel tanks and one day one went "BOOM" and he was in the hospital for 6 months. He barely survived.

I also would not try to describe how to do something that could potentially kill someone as I wouldn't want the legal or moral responsibility.

  4. Welcome to the site!! There is lots to read and learn from here.

Careful, you may get bit by the blacksmithing bug, the addiction always starts that way, "I do tinker occasionally";)

    Anyways, welcome.

  5. Element, the pricing on thaks site is right, but it's the shipping that is expensive to get it to your home hardware. I payed 30 when I picked it up directly from him. I priced it from our home hardware here, and it was 60 bucks unless I buy more, then its cheaper. I will just pick it up next time I'm up that way again.
