  1. Looking for tips on adding a bark texture to the face of a hand hammer
  2. when youre doing hundreds of tack welds an hour you will wear your neck joint out dropping your hood / you can purchase auto darkening lenses which we have but when it comes to doing a lot of tack welding we also just close our eyes. you can live your life in a bubble or you can GET-R DONE
  3. Ebay has them under leather apron and some are quite reasonable
  4. It has allways struck me as odd that if the american indians migrated here from the bearing straits / how come they didnt bring with them the tecnology with them like gunpowder and such and if they did decend from the far east as some experts believe then if they didnt bring the technology with them then why did their learning not keep pace with their ancestors after the straits were covered in water
  5. I trim handle slightly oversize and drive on like irnsrgn says but then I drive it back out and epoxy it with a good 2 part epoxy then drive it back in , wedge and let cure / havent had one that ive done come loose yet. the epoxy takes up any minute voids that may be between the wood and the shape of the hole in the hammer head
  6. I have been using nut size coal for quite awhile but recently have started going to other meeting/demos and so far everyone has used stoker/pea coal. When asked how they liked it compared to nut sized coal most said they didnt know because stoker/pea coal is all they have ever used. SO my question is which do you prefer and more importantly why do you feel you get better results with your choice, or do you have a choice in the size or type of coal readily available to you.
  7. Spring peepers --- gobbling turkeys, warm afternoons spent leaning against a big oak tree taking a nap with a breeze of spring air slightly blowing and tweety birds everywhere. You need to take the time to ponder the little things in life for they are often overlooked in the everyday hussle and bussle of trying to compete in the rat race.
  8. and my anvil , vise and a number of other tools are rusting rather badly. If I dont stop the leaks
  9. I am from central Virginia and have been doing this awhile This site looks interesting and I hope to learn something from you guys. Its refreshing to find such a clean well run site as this and I plan on visiting often
  10. I prefer dirt floors covered with about an inch of rock dust Ive never had a lot of trouble moving things around in fact I seem to rearrange the shop every few months to make room for more stuff
  11. nice job I like them well proportioned and graceful
  12. it is generally a waste of time to post it under anything related to blacksmithing on ebay as the people looking at it will only go make their own. If you use ebay you need to list it under something like ( fireplace tools ) for example or lighting , trivetts etc. Perhaps we could all get together and establish a totally new listing catagory to showcase our wares and direct interested people to that catagory. something that would seperate our stuff from the run of the mill cold formed and mig welded stuff that you see under the catagory of wrought iron on ebay now. Not that I have a problem with people making the stuff that I list / its just that those people are not going to buy anything that they can make. A lot of times I am one of those people
