  1. Well the satanite is providing mechanical protection for the liner and the ITC is coating the whole thing, floor plate included. The burners are directly overhead so the floor plate or the work .takes the flame.
the ITC came the consistency of corse grogged clay, with directions to cut with 1 part water to two parts ITC.
the directions for the Satanite made a thick pancake  batter wash.

at this point everything is green ware hard baked at 550f. After I clean up and remount the burners (mud dobbers) I will fire it up for an hour or two to try and vitrify the coatings. Then we will see if I wasted my money.

  2. The V handled tri fold isn’t great in a fight. Hard to learn to swing a tool 90d out of plane. I chopped a few wrist thick pines building improved fighting trenches (broke a few before I learned finesse).

    Just E-Z-tool…

  3. Lucky for me the wife is sick in bed and Dad is out of town visiting.

After two coats of ITC 100 (1 cup product mixed with 1/2 cup water) I am drying her out at 200f.
now I have to decide if I am going to use the new isolation pad of the new one. I am leaning toward the old one as it has already taken a set. This allows me to coat it with rigidizer and drying it with out it sticking to the bottom plate. The door was a PITA with cling wrap as a release (slow to dry).

  4. So I found a recliner kit for $175 as apposed to the $250-350 generally quoted. I think they had put the wholesale price on their website, and when I went in to pick it up they tried to charge me $350. So score.
the new liner is of a different material, the original seamed to be chopped fiber in a soft matrix, wile the new one seams to be ceramic wool that has been rigidized. The new liner also has a gasket for the burner assembly. I will have to cut a hole in the one end plate, as my forge has two end ports one of which was blocked buy a wad of cool wool.

I ordered some goodies from Mr. Volcano. Sorry Glenn free delivery from Amazon was their trump card.
so I am now in the proses off applying Satanite to the liner. After drying for an hour I put it in the oven at 170f for another hour.

next I will hole saw the other port and ally the next coat. The new hole will get its second coat when I coat the door gasket.

  5. I find a cover over the slack tank to be a nessisity, seams like when ever I have flying steel it ends up in it!

as to the air, I actually divert some to cool the smith!

improving the tuyere would  help, but even a shallow sink is real enugh to add clay to deal with dropping a 2” flange

  6. I think blacksmithing and the general DIY attitude leads to being more prepared.
their are a surprising number of shelf stable heat and eat meals to be had at the world of Wally to include options for heating water for food, drinking or washing
