  1. There is no problem to weld this anvil.
just heat it upp to about 250 degrees celsius before welding.
Use a toolsteel electrode to make the welding.
After the finished welding, put it in some insulating fiber to make it
    cold down wery slowly.
Than its only the grinding left.
You must be over 550degrees celsius to lose the hardening of the anvil.
    So keep on welding.

  5. This is the hammer i started my jobb as a blacksmith 1978 in AB Bofors in Sweden.
This hammer is a 800Kg(1750lb)steamhammer i worked with in nearly 15years, this was cut down to scrap this summer.
When i beginn my work in Bofors 1978 there were 26 airhammer in the smithy from 40-4000kg(90-8800lb), now they only have six of them left.
The smallest is a 600Kb Beche

  6. Yes you notice that right.
The reson for that is, if you fit springs on the big swages you will not be able to lift the tool up on the dies because they been to heavy.
This swages weigh nearly 30kilos each

And another reason is, lets say , after ten hit with the hammer you hawe to lift the shaft and the swages to blow away slag (is that the right word ??) in the lower swages so the surface will be good.

Roundbar swages is fitted with springs up to about 70mm.
