There is no problem to weld this anvil.
just heat it upp to about 250 degrees celsius before welding.
Use a toolsteel electrode to make the welding.
After the finished welding, put it in some insulating fiber to make it
cold down wery slowly.
Than its only the grinding left.
You must be over 550degrees celsius to lose the hardening of the anvil.
So keep on welding.

I would see, if I have the time to forge another lightball out of scrap tomorrow and show you the tools i use for this pieces.

I even have a few large tongs who will fit up to 9 inches, when i forge wery large pieces, up to 110Kilo each part.

Here is some picture of my Anvils.
The first is a wery old anvil, about 50kilo ( 110lb )
Second anvill is a "Norrlands anvil" 175kilo ( 385lb )
The last is a Soderfors anvill, 98kilo ( 215lb )
( I think that one kilo is 2,2lb, is that right, anyone????)

This Colliery is about 100 kubikmeter of charcoal, it take allmost 14 days untill it "burned" out.

We allso have the workshopp open this days so people can se us work in the shopp, and allso people can testing theire skills with the Beche 500Kg hammer.

The uppsetter is up to 60mm (2 3/8") range. and the small one is 1 3/4"

Some of the seamless forged Titanium ring i forge to a customer
The dimension of the ring is /240mm/180mm and the heght is 75mm

One of my latest tongs.
Forged in two pieces an mounted with a 7/8 rivet.
I grip over 150mm(10") scuere bar.
The steel use for all tongs i made is SS-2225,( AISI 4130 )

This is the hammer i started my jobb as a blacksmith 1978 in AB Bofors in Sweden.
This hammer is a 800Kg(1750lb)steamhammer i worked with in nearly 15years, this was cut down to scrap this summer.
When i beginn my work in Bofors 1978 there were 26 airhammer in the smithy from 40-4000kg(90-8800lb), now they only have six of them left.
The smallest is a 600Kb Beche -

Yes you notice that right.
The reson for that is, if you fit springs on the big swages you will not be able to lift the tool up on the dies because they been to heavy.
This swages weigh nearly 30kilos each
And another reason is, lets say , after ten hit with the hammer you hawe to lift the shaft and the swages to blow away slag (is that the right word ??) in the lower swages so the surface will be good.
Roundbar swages is fitted with springs up to about 70mm.
