  1. I think it's really cool that u did it. I made a machete for a friends son. I let him do a little of the work. He thought twice before saying" it can't be that hard" again. I made it out of some 5160 coil springs that he got nice and sweaty hammering flat.
  2. How do you make a blade stay in antler without pins showing?
  3. Yea frosty. Thanks for helping the new peoples, and the oldies that get stumped. I love blacksmthing and blade smithing. As for the old springs, I can attest to disaster using those.
  4. Well since I'm trying to get my name out there, I guess this is a good opportunity. I greatly appreciate the info.
  5. Thanks for that. According to your link, I have a d series material, which makes sense given the application of the metal. I had a suspicion, and short of a mass spectrometer or a scanning electron microscope, I'm convinced. I'll try to forge a piece and go from there.
  6. Thanks for all of the replies. These are from a machine that uses hydraulics to pull the blade down while sheet metal runs through it. These blades cut miles of rolled metal before needing replacement. Does anyone know what d2 steel looks like in a spark test?
  7. Someone has tried commission me to make a set of craftsman wrenches into a steak knife set. Does anyone know what type of alloy these most likely are? I explained to the customer that there are likely better steels out there, but he wants what he wants.
  8. I usually get my materials from the junkyard as I am just starting out. I found some slitter blades that don't spark test like a high carbon steel. Any ideas on the material?
