  1. Hang in there Jim, Cathy & I are pulling for you.
  2. I call my little hobby operation "Beat & Pry Forge". Got the name from some long forgotten maintenance man at our plant who had soapstoned "Beat & pry pipe shop, subsiduary of ? Metal works" on a giant fan housing. My wife told the kids a little diffeent story, she says that that describes the way I work on things.

The wife had her check-up with her oncology surgeon yesterday. ALL CLEAR! That makes 4 years now. WE are blessed. Copied to PL
  4. What are scrap prices in your area? Yesterday I got $4.00 American for 160 lbs. of scrap steel
  5. Spent from 0930 to 1645 yesterday cleaning out the shop/garage. Where does all this stuff come from?
  6. Put up 2 more fire extinguishers in the shop, for a total of three. Those plus the slack-tub, cooling bucket next to the pedestal grinder, and a slop sink with nearby bucket. I hope I never have to use any of them for an emergency 8)
  7. Jim, I only use the forge outside of the garage in the driveway & keep the bottle 2-3 feet from the forge.
  8. On a GOOD day I can sometimes see the floor in my shop. Now in addition to the usual pandemoneum, I have five pieces of lawn furniture I am refinishing for a neighbor. Once I searched forever, moving everything in the shop for a piece of material, then made the kids go search- 20 minutes later I went back down and it was right in the center of the bench.
  9. I guess if I was a little more observant I would have posted this in the "Fires" topic thread
  10. My gasser sits atop a craftsman tool cart full of firebrick. I set the anvil of course next to the forge. Today when hammering on a RR spike I smelled something burning between heats, on the bottom shelf of the cart was an old leather glove with a cloth back fully ablaze where a piece of scale fell onto it. My point is, be aware of whats laying around your work area. If that glove had been laying somewhere else it could have gotten exciting.
