Steve, I just read about your Dad and sent a prayer out for him and you and the Family.
-
I would suggest that you find a local group and become a member, There's alot of them out there that would welcome you.. On another note, Be sure and get you some safty glasses and put them to use.. Safty is very important, Make you some tongs, and then make more, Then learn heat treatment and make punches and chissels. then make more tongs.. lol.. One other thing,, Welcome to the Family...Tom

I just wonder if the old boy can still see with that eye.. it sure reinforces the reason for safty Glasses...I reckon that piece could have went straight on thru and went into his brain and turned him into a Ghost...

My wife had some chickens for awhile,, I built the chicken house then put up the fence so they could walk around outside, I also put fence over head so that the chicken hawks or foxes couldn't get to them. Laura had a lot of fun with them, We had a rooster that was a leg horn, and Laura loved that Rooster, she would go into the pen and he would get on her shoulder and she would pet him and Thought that she had her a good Pet.. I told a friend about her raising the chicken's and about the rooster,, He told me she better watch that Leg Horn, he said he had one and that joker got plum crazy,, Well Laura's pet grew up and sure enough he turned crazy and when you went into the pen he would try and get you.. One day the wife came in and Said the rooster tried to get her.. Well I sent the Terminater " our son" into the pen and he grabbed the Rooster and Rung his neck and While me and the boy was plucking the feather' and cleaning him the wife was getting the skillet ready... about a hour after the Rooster flew at the Wife we had him in the skellet.. .Nothing like good Fresh Chicken...LOL..

I've been reading the forums for a couple weeks now and figured it was about time to introduce myself. I'm very new to the craft (just got my forge fired up a week ago) and have been gaining a wealth of knowledge reading through everyone else's discussions.
If there's anyone from my area I'd love to get together sometime and chat, I'm on the West side of Detroit (old Redford). Also if you know anyone in the Detroit area wanting to sell an anvil at a decent price I'm hunting for one.
Jeremy
Welcome to the site. you'll find the info here.. I would recommend that you find a Blacksmith group and join them. I'm sure there's one in your area. Tom -
Thanks for the welcom. As the old saying go's, you can call me anything you want just don't call me late for dinner. Thanks again this is a truly fun and informative forum.

Thanks Tom, nice video. I'd say you have a terrific shop, especially with the coffee delivery. Ya just have to love women, they're so tolerant and still do things for us. Reminds me of Deb.
Life is good.
I think you two would be perfect neighbors. Ever think of living in Alaska? We have trucks and Deb would love to have neighbors we could visit back and forth with as in coffee pals.
Frosty the Lucky
Thanks Jerry. Yes I lucked out and got me a good wife.. I thank the good Lord for her all the time. and believe this or not. But she was the answer to a prayer... LONG STORY..
I would love to live in Alaska, But the wife don't want no part of it.. I have planned before to visit there, But it'll never happen, Money is tight and seems like i can't get ahead.. But I reckon thats the American way..lol.. have you a good day..Tom -
Cool Picture's.. I bet Grant the feller that made the touch mark could answer all your questions about the heat treating.. Have you ever seen the Cabover Conventional that run's around out there in LA.. I saw it out there in Ontario . that was along time ago , I'm not sure if its still on the road or not. But it looked wild..

Tom,
After watching that, All I can say is, "I like you."
The video gave your shop the magical appearance or feel that makes Blacksmithing so alluring. ......somewhere back in a poorly lit workshop a master craftsman creats stuff using a process that is not understood by the everyday folk.
I too like it when a beautiful wife brings me coffee. That is classic.
I like your hand cranked forge and hand cranked drill press.
Is that a "blue tooth"?
You and I would be hanging out if we were closer.
thanks to all of you guy's for the kind words... I havn't been doing this long, about a year. and realy don't get alot of time to play in my little building. I drive trucks for a living and while most are asleep I'm out pounding the pavement.
Bud You don't live but just a hop skip and a jump from here, and I got two Anvils. One of them likes to rock.. gotta fix that dude in the future..
But give me a hollor sometime and come on over and we'll try to beat some metal.. Tom -
