  9. Dr. James E. Price of Naylor, Missouri, wrote and published a monograph on the history of braces and bits while a member of the Midwest Tool Collectors Association about ten to fifteen years back. He probably has one of every kind known to man and could tell you everything you would want to know. The Midwest Tool Collector's Association may also have lots of info in their achives and newsletters.
  10. BAM Conference, May 2009 Demonstration by Bob Alexander and Pat McCarty working on hardware for the BAM Box shown as completed. Also the completed garden gate for Thelma Clark with leaves contributed by conference attendees.

  14. The masons who built our community dual forge also thought it would need a steel plate between the two firepots. They had never built a forge before but they knew fireplaces quite well and knew it needed a smoke ledge to draw properly. The attached pic is of the steel plate they installed.
  15. Our community forge was built three years ago. It is a dual forge side draft masonry structure with a 12 inch diameter flue stack. A Vulcan Firepot is installed on each side of the central flue. This is just after construction before our first heat. It has had a lot of use since then. Three BAM members share it with more recruits hopefully on the way. It draws better when both firepots are being used.
  16. The cupped tops for posts used in chain link fencing work pretty well and they are already cup shaped. You just need to texture them and punch a center hole. Expensive though, about $1 each from a chain link fence supplier.
  17. My first effort to unfold a 1/2 inch square stock with overlapping saw cuts in each end.
  18. This is a more elaborate rendition of the typical one piece cross
  19. A Barbeque Fork with a Copper Handle Made from a Plumbing Fixture (A anti-hammer air chamber)
  20. Cindy: Just got back from a BAM meeting near Marshall, MO. The talk of the meet was the sale next weekend March 28, 29 of the stock of the Ozark School of Blacksmithing near Potosi, MO, which is closing due to the death of Tom Clark. I picked up a 113# Arm & Hammer Wrought Iron Anvil with stand and anvil tools. As of last week they had 4 more London Pattern anvils to sell but they are going fast and there may not be any left by this weekend. Check out the website for the Ozark School of Blacksmithing for a partial list of what they have left for sale.
