  1. I second Dave Hammer's recommendation: google 'electrolytic rust removal'... lots of hits. It removes/converts rust, doesn't etch the remaining steel, slow but thorough. I have a 40 page document created from various internet finds on the process. Drop me an email and I will send it to you. I also found a product call Boeshield T-9, an aerosol protectant film, developed by Boeing Aircraft for corrosion proofing aircraft, works wonders. I removed the rust on some old tools last fall, spray on the T-9, let dry, buffed with a paper towel and left them in an unheated garage till last month. No rust.. and I live in the Atlanta area.. plenty of humidity.
  2. My experience is similar to abrasives experience. I have purchased ITC-100 from Darren Ellis, a pint, and upon opening it looks like a couple of pounds of a light colored, not white nor brown but a greyish dirty looking substance, mud. Yes is gritty. After firing it is a light grey to off white color.
  3. Yeah, sometimes it takes a little time. I understand Darren and his wife are both grad students also, so delays may occur. I have been ordering from him for about 3 years and have just come to expect a little more time on delivery. However, with a tracking number, your order is enroute! I live in the Atlanta metro area, and annually the Blade Show is held here (early June this year). I rathole some money, order what I need from Darren for pickup at the show (they have a table at the show) and sneak it home so that Momma doesn't see the UPS truck stopping in front. Purely for peace in the family you know!
  4. I am in the process of building a 1/2" & 3/4" burner from Michael's book. I keep seeing references to a 'gen 5' burner in threads and posts, yet a Google search (and not limited to IForgeIron forums) does not turn up any useful information. So, the questions are: (1) what 'generation' are the burners in the book?; (2) are the Rex Price T-Rex series of burners of the 'gen 5' type?; (3) What generation are the burners in the Ron Reil information now hosted by ABANA?; (4) Is there an internet resouce, i.e., forum, website, etc., or a book that addresses the 'gen 5' burner and, hopefully, how to construct one? Thanks,
  5. Hey Steve, See this link: The Knife Network Forums : Knife Discussions Trackrock Hammerin Spring 2009 weekend of April 3rd just outside of Blairsville. The Hammerin is not a function of the Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, although a lot of the guild members do come up and smote hot steel. The Guild is pretty active with a lot of members in the northern part of the state. Couple of members in Cumming, I'm in Sugar Hill, couple of guys in Buford.. kinda like weeds, we sprout just about anywhere. I check this forum every week or so.. perhaps if you want to chat it would be best to take it off line... send me an email.. Randy
