  1. Jesse, Your work is so creative, how do you come up with your ideas? Do you draw your ideas or just start building? Your bikes are truly rolling pieces of sculpture, do you do other forms of art?
  2. From your video "My little hammer" it looks to be a considerable blow with superb control. Built and tried to use the foot control without much success. I belive the air bypass is key to the operation by foot but I am not clear about how to link the control valve. It seems you would get movement in the control valve if it was not tagged down? Any clarification in the linkage would be greatly appreciated. Michael
  3. Wow, now I really want to see that. You think it would have the look of wrought? Is there a smaller section that could be done with 100 tons and still delaminate?
  4. I could play this game all day! I say we have to guess what it is? I'll post a few soon.
  5. Dillon Forge - Blacksmith Niles Bement Pond steam hammer running on a 400 cfm deutz diesel air compressor. The 750 lb head has a 24" stroke at 100 beats a minute. The two forgings in the video were built as a vessel #7 and a kinetic sculpture "Dyinocus"
  6. That is a classy looking knuck! Not much of your fingerprint on it, real zen of building. 47 or a FLP power plant?
  7. Thanks, I was wondering how much you figure the ends of the table are designed to hold? (furthest out from the center) and is there a formula for press tonnage when bending material? Say you have 6" square with blocks under it at 4', would 100 tons bend it say an inch or two cold? (hypothetically)
  8. Formed this 1/2" plate cold under my 100 ton Metal Muncher but I'm concerned about side loading the ram. Considering building a large "smithing magician" with a couple of large linear bearings I have. Any one have a similar set up?
  9. Thanks for coming to my rescue in respect of the big hammer syndrome. I also agree power is nothing without control and if you don't know how to forge by hand your just going to screw it up under a hammer or get hurt very badly. Is that forge shop still open in Utah? Just keepin tabs on all these hammers that are still standing, no I don't have a map with push pins in it. Nice shop and bikes!!!
  10. This looks more like your style Jesse. Pneumatic Power Hammer - Beche 220 lbs
  11. Ahh, mechanical vrs. air. I bought my Murray 7 years ago, done nothing to it but a put a couple gallons of oil on it. I also have one of those "air hammers" OK hammer but there is no substitute for power (Grant help me out here). You want power in an air hammer you have to step up in price big time or go to the older Nazel, Chamberburg self contained hammer that often need work as well. My point is that you get more hammer for the money when you go Mech.
  12. How about forged aluminum, not so hard just don't get it too hot. Tank panel 1/2" plate, rear strut 2" square, shifter 2" square one piece.
  13. There are a few out there probably not hard to find in your area. Good luck, get it hot HIT IT HARD!
  14. No problem, If your serious about hammers thats about as bad there is, but in my opinion a mechanical hammer may suit the bill a little better. My 250 Murray is a hammer you can really use, forges anything from 1/4" to 3".
  15. Well you do get two hammers (in case you break one?) and an air compressor. It took me over 300 hrs. on the rebuild, dropped $2000 on the compressor, etc. etc. seemed like a deal at the time.
  16. There are two just waiting for you I found on this forum. Steam??https://www.photoshop.com/index.html?user=Bentiron&galleryid=d5d728422f7d48d587bffffc2bcc8158&wf=share&trackingid=BTAGC
  17. It runs on air from a 400 cfm diesel air compressor. I found this hammer in SC on the side of the road. Old man came out of Mercers muffler shop and said "I'll sell you that for $200.00" I REALLY didn't know what I got myself into a total rebuild took six month off and on.
  18. You think that hammer is fun wait till you get a look at Grants little steam hammer on youtube- I used a similar hammer with a closed clapper dies to form stainless steel pegs for my pan. The tank shift is stainless as well but was forge by hand and on my 250 Murray mechanical hammer.
  19. Too bad its from 1925. I also like the 2000 lb. Greenerd arbor press.
  20. 4 1/2" quick release ratchet vise. Don't know who made it, has pretty smooth jaws and seems to be cast steel. Holds well, but I never beat on it. Good for file work.
