  1. Willy, Great work only bad I see is your scooter in the background.
Weld berries/grinder spray can/have wreaked havoc with paint, chrome, tires and seals. Greatist being gas lines. Covers don't do much. Ride safe bro.

  2. Welding or brazing around the edge will not work. Welding cast is a iffy thing to begin with. Between getting it welded all the way under the plate. Then re heat treating then cleaning up you will spend more than another anvil. Evan a HF 100lb would be a better way to go. Been welding 40yrs have my own shop and I wouldn't bother. Have touched up 2 Hay buddens 1 Trenton and replaced a horn. Also note the Vulcans (have a 60 and had a mint 100) are bottom grade anvils.

  3. My 2 cents worth. I seem to see a lot of " Tell us where you are." Can't we make that a requirement to join.

I also note that we have many older smiths who are junior or members, many school students who are senior members. Seems the faster you type the higher you go. A welcome to every new members or a wow to every post = senior. How about posting your background. IE 30yrs welding vs 30hrs of school. Having built 300 of these vs I heard, read, my teacher/mom/dad said. I have had dads in my shop
tell their kids that heliarc is helium injected arc welding.I think I have read every post on this site at least once. My background is
    40yrs welding/fabricating 2yrs smithing and still learning.

Sorry for the rant must be the old timers kicking in. I'll go sit in the corner now.

  4. My shop is 18X34(TOO SMALL) Spray foam insulation walls and roof. 200amp service(never enough pwr/outlets) course I have 4
welders CNC plasma table, mill drill, saws, blowers, heaters and lord
knows what else. Figure out what you need then triple it. Have added a 10X16 and still trip over everything. Add 4 anvils 2 post vises 1foot vise 2 gassers 1rivet forge and a power shear to above.
    Size matters. Best of luck.

  5. Just a note. I made a 37lb rail anvil. Spent about 20 hrs cutting drilling welding and grinding. At my shop rate thats $1000 plus materials. Then bought 2 H-Bs 142lb and 88lb for about $300. Yeah I kept the rail only use it for fun. My thought is if you enjoy doing it do it. If you are looking to save $ forget it.
