    Burns..

Worst burn came when I was working in the sawmill. Was tempering a sprocket before installation. Had it all nice and cherry red ready for quenching when a guy came up and started talking to me. Had tongs in one hand but reached down and picked it up with the other. Suddenly realized something was not going to plan.
  2. I use mig when I have a large job and need to lay alot of metal fast. Almost never use my stick anymore. Usually only use it when doing cast because I can just grab a couple rods.
  3. I tend to use my tig only for aluminum or delicate projects where I need the foot control or on projects where splatter is to objectionable and cleanup is difficult. Mig is so much quicker much of the time.
  4. I have OA welded alu sprinkler pipes many times. Not too difficult. I always used the prefluxed filler.
  5. Regional..... thank you. I used a tig at about 35amp
  6. Thanks all for the critic. It is very helpful. MROOB It was about 1 1/2 hour to build. and another couple to clean and polish FUN little project. I am trying to develop my skills at miniatures.
  7. Thanks guys for the uplifting comments. I am new at this forging thing. It sure is fun.
  8. Sure it drums...... kinda goes 'tink....tink'. I think I got the skin too tight!
  9. Here's a quick little project I made for a friend for Christmas. He is a drummer in a band. It's about 3" x 3". Made from a piece of pipe, some 3/16" rod, small piece of sheet for the skin and baling wire for the tightener cords.
  10. ??????? Glenn..... your profile is not showing location..........??????? other than IforgeIron..... I don't get it......??????
  11. Thanks for the comment folks. I hope to (and will) learn a lot more on the forum. This blacksmithing is new to me. I haven't forged anything since I was 16 yo in ag. class back in high school. I am having a ball doing this now. I don't have a forge yet. Just using my OA torch but hope to buy or build one soon. I have several gas overhead heaters (3 and 4 burner). Hoping I can build a decent forge using one of these. I have stripped one done and fired it up on my bench. Seems to work good. Originally they run on 1/2 psi and say 45,000 btu. By increasing the gas pressure I should be able to raise the btu quite a bit. I have heated a piece of metal to forging temp just by holding it in front of one of the burners. Any ideas as to what I would end up with by a pressure/volume increase? I don't know the formula. Thanks
  12. Been lurking in the background for awhile taking in all the great info in this place.. A lot of great talent coming out of here. I am no where near that but with what I find here it gets better daily. Thanks. A little about me.. 55 yr, been a millwright/electrician for 35 yrs. Always had my hands in welding and repairs. Have always been somewhat of an artist in various areas but not enough time to get serious about metal art. Time to change that. Here are a few of my first projects... mostly done because of what I have found here and a couple other forums.... thanks again. Brad
