cbl4823, those are beautiful anvils , and in my opinion well worth the money , what ever it was. I am still amazed at the number of people that cannot believe that an anvil can be a collectors item . In our local paper a few days ago there was an article about a pistol that set the record for price at an auction. It was a Colt Walker made in 1847, it brought over 900,000 dollars . I have several anvils that were made before 1847, the Walker Colts were made to be used , and in fact were used by the Texas Rangers . there age and rarity makes them valuable , just like anvils . thanks Forgeman

Hey Guys , Anvils are no different than old cars , guns , coins , stamps or any of the thousands of things people collect . Lucky for us in the U.S.A. a lot of guys fought and died so we could have the chance to earn a living and spend our money on things that make us happy . I am happy for the guy with 1000 anvils , he worked or his ancestors worked and made some money and he is spending it on what he likes , (way to go ) . To the guys that want one anvil to use in your blacksmith shop , I ask how bad do you want one? There are several companys that are producing high quality anvils both in the U.S.A. and overseas . with the cost of other "hobbies " running in the thousands and even cable t.v. at 70.00 a month and smokes at 5.00 a pack . even a stocker at wal-mart could save a 1000 .00 dollars for an anvil that will last a lifetime . hello Sask Mark, Arm and hammer anvils do have a serial number on the front foot but the weight stamp is on the side just like the one KYBOY has pictured , that is an Arm and Hammer by the way, I have several Arm and Hammer anvils and have seen many more and they are all marked this way. hope this helps , Forgeman

Hello, William Foster anvils were made in England , they are a multi-piece , forge welded , wrought iron body with a steel face plate welded on . They were high quality anvils and there is still a large number of them in use today . Hope this helps , Forgeman

They only made ten episodes of Forge and anvil . I e-mailed Allen Rogers and he said that they would like to continue the series but have not done anything yet . however he said if nthey do anything else it would be on RFD channel .I have seen all the episodes , and I agrre it could have been better , but like someone has already said , how many blacksmithing shows do we have to choose from . thanks Forgeman

hello Charlie , Aeneas was right , everyone has their own idea about what is the right anvil to start with . I will add my two cents worth.Firstly , you mentioned knife making and candle holders, those are two different animals . You can use just about anything to make a wall hook or a candle holder , however an anvil with a good clean face and no swayback will save alot of work as far as knife making is concerned . If you consider the cost of a new bass boat at 20+thousand or a new four wheeler at 8,000 dollars, 800 to 2000 dollars is cheap for an anvil that will last a lifetime . what I am saying is that if I were serious about blacksmithing I would buy a new high quality anvil. just my idea , good luck , Forgeman

As has been stated earlier , acetylene is very unstable above 15 psi , a full bottle is about 250 psi dissolved in acetone , cracking a bottle without the regulator installed is an extremely dangerous practice . Forgeman
