I use and love the Hilti brand the bits are a bit pricy. However, they are carbide and can be sharpened they have a center guide and cut perfect round holes . I second the safety chain for vertical, and over head drilling as they can ,will, and do lose power when you least expect it .

Glenn,
I am a bit lazy as to typing so I am posting this site as it has about everything you need for different types of First-aid kits that I have built using their bags and tweaked them to suit my & my families needs .

I like them well crafted and good design . However, I must agree with Rich about the aluminum on a knife. JIMHO

Sorry it took me a bit but the camera battery was dead for some reason. These were the two boxes I could locate quickly at the house. The blue one came from somewhere with a bunch of tig parts. I'm guessing the day instructor at the tech school gave it to me when they got parts in a few years back and they didn't need the plastic box. Clear one is my basic set of parts at the house for my Syncrowave 200.
Looks like you have been in my shop had to check if you had mine as that is about what mine looks like ... LOL

I wonder however where the idea that this was a complex design came from? this type of comment I would have expected on a post like my Frostmourne replica one where the idea was as thick as jell-o not on one as simple as this. I have pulled off much more difficult builds than this including my candle holder, my recent leaf handle sets and my numerous knife blanks.
While I will Not fault your efforts there is quite a bit of difference in forging a rod/ staff. Then there is using a smooth bar and adding hammer marks and carvings to it . end result your friend was happy with what you gave them . well done with your project .

I would like to see your welds and /or some of the ones you are having issues with . It is hard for anyone to correct or help with words alone yes I can read what your are saying However, your welds would speak for themselves and would allow others to offer a much better input to help you .

very nice Forge it has been a few years since I have seen one built and put to work this shows that you can forge in any condition .

That is a Hawg of a forge and looks fine as frog hair it should serve you very well with a good lining. what type of burner will you be using with it ?
Sam

Yes ! I know exactly how you feel . this is what happened with my KMG I finally bit the bullet and made one Now it is like my right hand and a dream to work with as well as a blessing that helps me do what I love .
