  1. First time really working copper, and first time doing any dishing. It's a decorative bowl I made for my mother for Christmas, quite happy with how it turned out
  2. It's potentially possible some of the earlier ones could have been forged, there were swages for making smaller screws for certain. Here's a link on american longrifles site describing it and it's use for making wood screws. ( mod feel free to remove link if it's not appropriate ). http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=18831.0
  3. Not a complete vise, but the beginnings of one. Maybe give some insight / ideas?
  4. I ended up not getting it (didn't even bother with the drive to look at it). Waited till quadstate and went there looking. Ended picking up a 154lb Hay Budden (much closer to the size I really wanted to have).
  5. I have never attended a SOFA meeting. Where / when is this blacksmiths conference? I would gladly hold off on my purchase until then if I can possibly get a better deal.
  6. I'm in Dayton Ohio. I've heard Ohio is anvil rich, but I can't seem to find them, or if I do they want ridiculous prices. I wouldn't be doing heavy forging, ultimately I would like to do knife making, or maybe a few swords.
  7. I'm looking at getting a 108 lb Hay Budden for my first anvil. The guy is asking 300 for it. There are no significant chips out of the side, and no cracks or undo wear that I can see. Is that a reasonable price for the size?
  8. Don't know if the original poster is still around, or if anyone is still interested. But there's a video of someone who did create one. A brief glimpse of the process really, but you can see the amount of work and difficulty.
