I make horseshoe lamps and just sold two to the same party. While I was heming and hawing about he price, I really didn't know what to charge, she said don't sell yourself short. I also get my shoes for free for the most part, I buy for special orders, but there are lamp parts and shades not counting cleanup and finishing. So far my price ranges have been from 100.00 to 150.00. If you go to the forum horseshoes as the metal you can see one of the lamps.

i have heard of them before but this is the first that i hav seen. thats a hoot.

nice job beth. interesting designs for the garden. does the sun shine over there :P when i was ther 50 years ago all it did was rain.

And people are educated(?) by hollywood. Did you ever see a movie that had a blacksmith scene in where he was hammering on any but a horse shoe.?

My background is a farrier as well although I have pounded on iron befor I started that. And I can understand your frustration. One of feeders to this problem is exposure. I gave demo's at schools, group meeting , 4h and the list goes on. Plus when you are working at a stable you exposed to the public even more. So today as soon as someone hears blacksmith, right away they think horse shoes. I guess it just comes with the territory.

looks like a table off a milling machine or a shaper. should be stout enough.

Well after reading all of these anvil topics I decided that maybe this one would fit. I have a PW and have had it for 40 years. Always figures it weighed about 120 lbs.
after all the dicissions I put it on a scale and got 102.6 lns. The markiings are 0-3-20. Has wrought in a circle. Paid 40 bucks for it in the early 70s. Used iit for horseshoeing so it was right size to carry in and out of truck 6- 8 times a day. May have to get a bigger one now.

i generally keep a small wood stove going. does the job nicely. no frozen water all last winter. this year a couple of times because i didn't keep a fire going.

ciladog, I agree. I am sure someone will get their panties twisted over this. But you can not be spoon fed and think you can do the job.

Before I would get to crazy I think I would give it a good lub. There is obviou rust howing around the screw stem and that could also be in the hinge pin. Good luck

if that trailer ball has a cap on it it means the boltgoes all the way through the ball. in other word its iin two peices. when you tighten the nut you have to be real careful that you dont squash th ball. basically they are junk as far as towing goes. i think you will find the ball itself pretty soft. they are hollow.

The oil that they use is thick like molassas. try talking to the folks that are restoring the steam loco and see if they have any leads.

Sounds like your having fun. I'm thinking that if you run this by steam or air you will have to make sure that either one is saturated with oil for lub on the inside. This is simular to a steam locomotive setup. You don't have to wring it out of the air or steam but it needs to be there.
